After their achingly beautiful SS10 collection, the style set were out in full force to see what London’s most creative design duo, Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff, would deliver for AW10.
Working from their isolated atelier in London’s East End, it seems like the designers have been living in a fantasy world full of bright colours and beautiful details for the last six months.
Inspired by places they’ve been to around the world, as well as countries they’ve only ever visited in their dreams, this was a collection that had a myriad of references.
With a beautiful palette – pinks, reds, oranges and yellows – the terms ‘Indian Summer’ and ‘Eastern Promise’ come to mind. Their full length dresses, featuring lace and tinsel and worn with boxy, oversized embellished floral jackets had an exotic, far away, yet romantic feel.
Wearing handcrafted paper cutout crowns by headwear designer Nasir Mazhar, the models looked like they had walked off the pages of a foreign fairytale. And walking down a catwalk that had faded wallpaper and tinsel hanging from the ceiling and was lined with old floral rugs, it was like nothing else we’ve seen this week.
And that’s the duos charm! They don’t care what anyone else is doing. They do exactly what they want.
