Michael van der Ham made his debut as a NEWGEN designer with his first solo show at London Fashion Week today! For an up-and-coming name, he had the front row packed with all the right people. From Sarah Mower to Anna Della Russo, the fashion heavyweights were out in full force to show their support.

Over the last few seasons, Michael has made a name for himself with his ultra-feminine dresses created by his unique collage technique. Through sourcing vast amounts of fabrics from diverse decades and countries, Michael's trademark has become his decadent, yet jig-sawed together aesthetic.

For SS11, Michael continued to play with contrasting fabrics but as well as looking high and low for swatches to use, the designer wowed the style set with his custom-made materials. The luxe devores Michael created in velvet, satin, jersey and lame took this collection to a new level.

With his Surrealist tone-on-tone prints made up of giant brush strokes, feathers, and animal prints clashed and contrasted with unusual jerseys and metallics, it was clear why Michael van der Ham is the name on everybody's lips.

Although his dresses – especially the finale gown – still stole the show, there were plenty of gorgeous pieces that could be worn day to day. Ballon shape pants; pretty blouses; and high-waist skirts broadened the designers' offering for SS11 and are sure to be seen on the style set front row at London Fashion Week next season.

Watch this space and be sure to invest in bright yellow eye shadow for SS11 – we think it's the perfect accompaniment to the summer brights we've seen on the London catwalks so far!
