While we were over in New York and down at the Topshop Show Space during London Fashion Week, we couldn’t resist snapping the style set dressed in their front row finest. With all the buyers, editors, stylists and models in town for the shows, it’s the perfect place to get styling ideas for the season ahead! You see, what’s worn front row can be as exciting as what’s shown on the catwalk so as well as scribbling down what we’re loving for next winter, we also created a spring must-have list based on all our favourite front row looks! Here’s what’s on ours - let us know what’s on yours…
A GREAT PAIR OF TROUSERS
Everywhere we looked, both in New York and London, there were girls wearing the most amazing wide leg high-waist trousers! They certainly are a must-have piece for spring and by must-have, we mean, you should get your hands on a pair as soon as you can. As seen here, they’re the perfect transitional piece and are something that you’ll definitely still want to wear by the time it gets warm. Style up yours with a shirt and a slim fitted blazer and then with a simple vest when the sun starts to shine. The one thing to remember is to keep your proportions balanced - that is unless you're as tall as our new model crush Ming Xi and can pull of a stand-out blazer as well as a pair of truly great trousers.
A COAT FOR APRIL SHOWERS
It always rains during Fashion Week in February so the fashion pack dressed appropriately! No matter how hard you wish it won’t, it always rains in April, so follow these girls in the know and get your hands on a trench, or an oversized parka. Follow the likes of Alexa Chung and go for a classic style, or take a leaf out of Queen Michelle’s book – one of the lovely bloggers behind Kingdom of Style – and go for an updated version of this classic staple. A great alternative to a trench is a boyish, military-esque parka -as seen here, they look amazing thrown over ladylike separates. Get set to pop on whatever you buy over anything and everything - this is a piece that you quite literally won’t take off all spring.
A PRINTED PIECE
Madcap prints in all sorts of colour collisions were seen on the catwalks at the SS11 shows so it’s no surprise that they made an appearance on fashion’s most serious players. From this swirling ink, hyper-real printed jumpsuit by Topshop Unique, to our style hero Yasmin Sewell looking seriously stylish in a Christopher Kane galactic-inspired skirt and a Mary Katrantzou top, to Josephine de la Baume in a Jonathan Saunders frock, we’re seriously coveting a printed piece for spring. Once we have ours, we won’t be waiting for the sun to shine to wear it - as seen here, just pop your coat over your shoulders, team with boots, or wear with leather skinnies.
A POP OF BRIGHT COLOUR
We can’t wait to inject our wardrobes with a seriously bright pop of colour. As seen on these extremely style savvy show-goers - Yasmin Swell, Justine Fairgrieve and Natalie Hartley – a beautifully bright shade can really make an outfit pop. As well as electric green, fluorescent coral and bright orange, we’re loving bubblegum pink, eye-popping red, cobalt blue, and glowing yellow for spring. As seen, brights look great with simple separates in neutral tones, but they also look envy inducing mixed and matched with colourful and crazy prints. Don’t be afraid to make a statement – pile on the colour and celebrate that spring has finally arrived.
