We kick-started our trip to New York with Richard Chai's  show who had named his AW12 collection "LOVE" for a very good reason! This season, his front row was jammed with "fashion besties," the inseparable industry twosomes we have come to adore.

Among the insanely chic duos: Blogger Bryan Boy and model Rumi Neely, Vogue photographer Phil Oh and Susie Bubble, and Glamour's Rajni Lucienne Jacques with Teen Vogue's Shiona Turini. As for Mr. Chai, his best friend – the designer Phillip Lim – arrived for the show looking shockingly calm (his own show is in three days). Maybe Lim's deep breaths and easy smile were the result of Chai's soundtrack – almost entirely songs by The Smiths, with "How Soon is Now" blasting across Lincoln Center for most of the show.

As for the clothes, well… we want them. All of them. They're a patchwork of deep pink floral prints, gradients of gray stripes, and accents of indigo tie dye, and between the deep-pocketed trench coats, the pleated A-line minis, and the loose silk pyjama pants, we're already envisioning a major glam-grunge moment for Fall 2012, with stripes replacing plaid as the choice pattern for the young, angsty, and beautiful.
