It was a game of guess the pattern backstage at Mary Katrantzou, as everyone crowded around the rails of clothes to try and spot a spoon here, a pencil nib there, a white horse over there. And pencil nibs have never been so beautiful – when we saw some of the models going for a walk-through in their looks our jaws dropped and we knew that the audience outside were in for a couture-like treat.

Hair and make-up arrived super early, ready to whip the models into shape for Mary's show. Hair was backcombed and gathered up into a messy top knot, and make-up was an artful application of black eyeliner in strong geometric shapes. For such an early hour, the models were on great form, laughing and joking together. At London Fashion Week, it's not often that you get to wear such extravagant pieces and the models were in awe of Mary's creations just like everybody else! We would have been on great form too if we were about to step into the works of art that lay waiting on the rails.

Meanwhile out front it was an homage to Mary, as a fleet of PRs swept around looking fabulous in her SS12 designs, girls sat front row in her Topshop collaboration, and as the fashion show attendees dived to snap up one of her NEWGEN t-shirts at the pop up shop. Close friend and long-time supporter Alexander Fury stole the show however dressed from head-to-toe in custom made Katrantzou.

The brightly coloured audience slowly began to wake up once they’d had their coffee from our brilliant baristas, and had a bite of warm poached rhubarb and raspberries with home made granola. The lovely Alexa Chung was more than happy to wait in line for her coffee, but Anna Wintour skipped the food rush and went straight to her seat a whole fifteen minutes early – she obviously didn’t want to miss a beat!
