Now that Fashion Week is done and dusted, we have our evenings to ourselves again and there’s nothing we like better than to take in a gig. Last night we went to the NME Awards Show at Cargo, to check out hot new kids on the block Zulu Winter, who’ve been generating a bit of a buzz since they released their first single ‘Let’s Move Back to Front’ back in November. Their latest single ‘We Should Be Swimming’ got us even more excited, as we’re suckers for a good bit of Indie Rock, and the driving beats and haunting vocals of this tune are right up our alley!
The haunting vocals belong to lead singer Will Daunt, whose sharp songwriting skills are matched only by his ultra-sharp cheekbones. The boys delivered a brilliant headline performance at Cargo, one of our favourite East London venues. The house was packed to the rafters with new fans and industry experts alike: Zulu Winter are managed by the team behind The Vaccines, Crystal Castles and The Cribs, so it’s fair to say there’s a lot of expectation surrounding the five London guys, who've been friends since they first met at school – and their adrenalised performance surpassed expectation.
We’re looking forward to seeing the guys on this summer’s festival circuit – they’ll be playing Field Day and Secret Garden Party, and we’ll definitely be checking to see where else they’re likely to crop up. But judging by what we saw last night, we imagine we’ll have no trouble keeping up to date with their whereabouts.Check them out and remember, you heard it here first!
