We are head-over-heels in love with Michael van der Ham's exquisite AW12 collection! From the rush backstage after his show, it appears that we weren't the only ones. Everyone from his ex-teacher Julie Verhoeven to the ever stylish Yasmin Sewell wanted to congratulate the lovely Michael on what has to be his strongest collection to date. We couldn't agree more with one of our very own Topshop girls who gushed after seeing the finale, "I want to get married just so I have a reason to buy one of Michael's embellished dresses."

Michael is known for his unique way with a fabric clash, and this season was no different, with textured jacquard organza, hammered silk, metallic boucle and cashmere all coming together in a glorious cacophony of textures and colours.

But this season, the difference was in the overall mood of the Van Der Ham girl. We thought she’d grown up into a glamorous sophisticated siren, with Hollywood hair and dazzling party dresses. Who could resist the short shift dresses richly embellished with sequins and metallic lace, with panels that parted to reveal bright aqua blue or baby pink underneath? And who wouldn’t want to waft around a party wearing that incredible red chiffon dress, that fell off the shoulder to reveal a billowing swathe of fabric falling down the back?

The veneer of glamour was added to by the addition of Christian Louboutin shoes, which faithfully echoed the fabric clash of the clothes on elegant platform sandals. Everything – from the hammered satin tees to the cigarette pants – was sprinkled with a sort of gold sparkle that means many of these dresses and separates are made for partying. It may be early, but roll on party season 2012 we say!
