We've fallen head over heels for our new Calypso collection – it just seems to shout hot summer nights. There's also something about the tropical colours, pretty prints and retro shapes that makes us nostalgic for Natalie Wood as Maria in West Side Story (only one of the greatest films of all time.)

If you haven't seen it yet – in which case, what are you doing?! Stop reading this and go and watch it immediately. West Side Story is a 1961 movie based on the story of Romeo and Juliet. Set in 50s New York, instead of Montagues and Capulets there are two gangs, the Sharks and the Jets, fighting over territory while Tony (a Jet) meets and falls in love with Maria (a Puerto Rican 'Shark girl'). While the story plays out there is plenty of amazing sun-soaked 50s fashion to take inspiration from.

Annex - Wood, Natalie (Westside Story)_02

If you are familiar with the story of Romeo and Juliet then you can probably guess what happens to the star-crossed lovers at the end, but quite frankly we'll never forget the beautiful Natalie as Maria and all her gorgeous outfits. It just makes us want to sing and dance and maybe do some jazz hands…ok we'll calm down now. Although – just look at this lovely gif of a spinning Maria!
