Our in-house style inspiration, Emma Farrow, a.k.a. Topshop’s Head of Design just got back from the bright lights of NYC where she spent a few days working on our Unique SS13 collection that’s set to show at London Fashion Week on Sunday 16th September. Now, considering this is a woman that never fails to make our heads turn every time she walks past our desks, it seemed only fair that we catch up with her post-trip to steal some city secrets. Covering all her favourite hotspots – here’s Emma’s insider account to the Big Apple, Topshop style!

The Soho Grand – perfect, not only for resting your weary, boot-clad feet after a busy day but also as a luxury meeting point to talk Topshop Unique’s SS13 collection with stylist Clare Richardson. Discussing everything from embellishment and final colourways for shoes and bags to possible jewellery ideas for the show, the stylish pair got one step closer to seeing the new collection come to life (and enjoyed the hotel’s scrumptious Mac n Cheese!).

It’s no secret that New York is a haven for vintage lovers, boasting some of the best stores in the world, especially in the East Village. For Emma, no trip would be complete without a visit to What Goes Around Comes Around, Tokio 7, Narnia and Revolution; you may have to hunt for the best pieces but when you find them, it’s beyond worth it. Her findings? Vintage dresses from Balenciaga and Dries Van Noten, skirts from Marni and Comme des Garcons and yes, all of these beyond beautiful shoes below, which alas are for Unique inspiration as opposed to Emma’s own personal wardrobe (but a girl can still dream!)

Vintage aside, she also managed to pick up a pair of shiny new bow-embellished Miu Miu pumps, plus this cute Kardashian-inspired illustration from Opening Ceremony – we want one!

So where’s good to eat in NYC? For Emma, it’s without a doubt Café Gitane. Offering French-Moroccan cuisine from brunch through to dinner, there’s a real niche vibe to the setting making it one of the hottest hangouts for the city’s fashion pack. Emma’s tip? Grab a sidewalk table and watch the world go by, while tucking in to their infamously good baked eggs!

And no trip would be complete without a trip to Lovely Day on Elizabeth Street – combining Asian Fusion food with an unexpected shabby-chic interior, it’s the perfect spot for a ‘lovely’ lunch or dinner.

Now all we need is a flight…
