When we were growing up we weren’t lusting after a look like Rihanna or Taylor Swift’s but envisioning ourselves in poofy gowns, tulle skirts and a tiara. That’s right, we were obsessed with Disney Princesses and thought the world would be just right if only we had a fairy godmother, an evil aunt and some super cool mice to hang out with when we were feeling a bit low. This month we’re re embracing the trend – not only are we about to launch our totally romantic Debutante trend on Friday – but we’ve snapped up some sought after tickets for the English National Ballet’s The Sleeping Beauty at London’s Coliseum to relive the fairytale dream.
Okay, we so love Matthew Bourne’s mischievous modern ballet productions – and a vampiric-inspired Sleeping Beauty was always going to be a winner in our books – but there’s nothing quite like pure, classic ballet. We’re talking giant leaps, frothy costumes and girls in tutus being won over by Prince Charming and the English National Ballet’s latest production seems to be ticking all the boxes. Tipped to wow beginners and dedicated lovers of ballet alike; Most excitingly it will see the ENB’s newly made Artistic Director Tamara Rojo take the title role, Aurora, herself. (Talk about multi-tasking!) Using the choreographing of Kenneth MacMillan in 1986 and based on the masterful score by Nikolai Sergeyev, there’s waltz and pas de deux galore all amidst a sumptuous background. (Oh, and did we mention, it even features the Disney classic Dream Upon a Dream.)
So embrace the glitter and the fairy tales and snap up your tickets here.
