Coffee table books dedicated to fashion are our favourite indulgence. From Diana Vreeland’s epic Harper’s Bazaar hardback to Dior’s most recent tome, there’s nothing better than a Sunday afternoon spent browsing through these gorgeous pages. This year we’ll be spending the next few months swooning over the pages of Pattern, the most current, comprehensive and, well, beautiful collections of fashion designers and their work we’ve seen for a long time.
Pattern, 100 Fashion Designers, 10 Curators does exactly what it says on the title. 10 of the most acclaimed movers and shakers in the fashion world including Nick Knight’s digital project SHOWStudio, Tavi Gevinson – of the infamous Style Rookie – and fashion consultant Yasmin Sewell, have chosen their must-know designers to feature in this compendium.
This is no humble fashion list, Pattern is an opus giving four pages each to the designers and cover never before seen photographs, drawings, sketchings and computer renderings that expose the most iconic and visionary moments in their work. In addition the curators delve into the rich archives of their favourite designers for a real sneak peek into the process of their creative work.
And of course, we’ve got some of our favourite designers up there too. Topshop collaborators are ten a penny here with both Mary Katrantzou and Christopher Kane sharing their intimate inspirations. And of course, there’s a piece dedicated to J.W. Anderson and other stellar Brit stars like Louisa Gray, Gareth Pugh and Holly Fulton. If there’s one thing on our must-have list this season this might just be it.
Pattern, 100 Fashion Designers, 10 Curators,is priced at £49.95 / €69.95, and available at www.phaidon.com
