After drawing in the crowds with Bugsy Malone and Casablanca, Future Cinema are heading back to East London’s glitzy Troxy for a night dedicated to disco. Yes, this season Future Cinema are returning for a party to rival no other and we’re completely psyched! Grab your flares, warm up those hips, it’s Saturday Night Fever like you’ve never seen it before.
Whether it’s in your top ten movies of all time or a giggly guilty pleasure we dare anyone not to smile their way through the cult film. If you need reminding, this is the flick in which John Travolta plays the white suited king of the dancefloor Tony Manero and busts out moves to a soundtrack equal in cheese and brilliance from the Bee Gees and KC and the Sunshine Band. It’s about Brooklyn teens in dead end jobs and the craziness they get up to after hours and we spent many a Saturday night trying to emulate his red-dressed beau Donna Pescow on colour-popping dancefloors everywhere.
We are ridiculously excited for Future Cinema to be taking on such a fun and iconic film. Casablanca saw them turn the Troxy into a smoky speakeasy and Casablanca transformed it into a glittering casino. This time the Troxy will become the 2001 Odyssey – yes, the very disco that Tony himself stole our hearts in. Future Cinema promises “a gritty and glitzy club world through disco balls, amazing DJs, dance-offs and secret scenes” and we wouldn’t doubt them for a second. Future Cinema isn’t just about watching the film it’s about being part of it so audience participation is key. We’ve already started searching for ’70s inspired playsuits and over the top costume jewellery and it won’t be long before we start limbering up to for a night that’s all about the boogie.
Tickets for many of the dates have sold out but there’s a new batch of tickets coming out this Wednesday! (Phew.) We can guarantee they’ll be leaving the page quicker than Travolta can move those hips so don’t miss your chance to experience the hottest discotheque in town. Let’s get jiggy!
