Marta Marques’ and Paulo Almeida met on the renowned Fashion MA at Central Saint Martins and while there, decided to combine their talents. Since graduating, they’ve shown under Fashion East and for SS14 have been awarded NEWGEN sponsorship for the first time! Showing on the London Fashion Week schedule at the Topshop Showspace is a  big step for an up-and-coming brand and we knew these two would step up to the challenge.

Who… Design duo Marques’ Almeida, a.k.a Marta Marques’ and Paulo Almeida.

The collection in 5 words… Nostalgic early ’00s after party!

Playlist… Marques and Marta put the playlist together with the idea of getting the front row dancing in their seats. With such killer ’90s tunes blasting over the sound system – think Basement Jaxx, Groove Armada and All Saints ‘Never Ever’ closing the show – how could anyone resist?

What we loved… The duos’ signature low slung baggy jeans teamed with matching teeny weeny bandeaus – their introduction of metallic denim also got us Topshop girls a tad excited. Their cowhide coat was also a scene-stealer and we can see it making a front row appearance at next season’s shows.

Hero piece… We can see ourselves going from one party to another in the shimmering pink gauze asymmetric spaghetti dress! Hello iridescence for SS14.

Inspired by… Devon Aoki and Frankie Rayder staying up until dawn! This was a collection made for an after party.

Beauty notes…  Make-up artist Laura Dominique was swooning over summer. “This is a girl who’s been away all summer, she’s had an amazing holiday and she’s back in London with her sunny vibe,” said Laura, “she’s still got her tan – it’s a sunglasses tan! – so we’ve given her a bit of colour on her cheeks and sculptured cheek bones.”

End notes… Who doesn’t love a bit of ’90s grunge girl?
