Simone Rocha – daughter of designer John Rocha – is the name causing a real stir on the London scene right now. After showing with Fashion East, last season Simone was awarded NEWGEN sponsorship and got the style set to sit up and pay attention with her perfectly Peptobismol pink AW13 collection. So at her SS14 show this morning, there was was no question that the who’s who of fashion would be there to see what she’d do.
What… Simone Rocha looking super cute in a two piece ensemble of her own!
Where… The British Fashion Council’s Courtyard Showspace at London’s beautiful Somerset House.
Who… The industry’s serious players were sat front row; everyone from legendary writer Sarah Mower to Browns owner Mrs Burnstein.
Playlist… Simone’s brother Max Rocha put the soundtrack together and with the opening track Island Song by U.S. Girls it was an ode to the awkwardly charming models we saw make their way down the catwalk.
The collection in 5 words… Lace, embroidery, tulle and pearls!
What we loved… What’s not to love?! This collection was a perfectly unexpected combination between the hard and the soft. Think plasticised lace skirt suits, embroidered plastic dresses, stark white coats with pearl-encrusted collars and broderie anglaise corset dresses that showed a flash of thigh. It was ladylike and elegant in a totally off-kilter way, culminating in a breathtaking finale of veiled beauties in heavy silk white ruffled dresses. Breathtaking!
Hero piece… Anything with pearls, pearls and more pearls! We particularly loved Simone’s accessories though – the old lady patent black bags and the knee socks edged with pearls of course.
Inspired by… Opposites! This was a collection caught in between balance and constraint.
Beauty notes… Simone imagined her girls to be from Connermara in the West of Ireland and their thick unruly brows, rosy cheeks and soft pink lips had a fresh-faced country girl kind of feel.
The hair… Model Chloe Norgard opened the show with her shock of bright green hair up in a mohawk! Tied into tiny ponytails which were then knotted together, we guarantee that hair stylist James Pecis will be in demand for step-by-step guides come SS14.
End notes… There were pearls but they certainly weren’t your granny’s!
