When two people as beautiful as Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson star in a film together surely there’s got to be some magic? Our minds did nearly implode with the overwhelming gorgeousness seen on screen but we managed to hold it together to watch as the two of them star in what might just be one of the most unexpectedly brilliant films of the season. The film centres around Gordon-Levitt’s Don Jon and his obsession with girls, girls, girls. He’s the modern day Don Juan and makes for entertaining viewing, especially when he’s badly attempting to pick up the magnetic Barbara Sugarman a.k.a. Scarlett Johansson. There’s awkward dating scenes and lots of cringing, laugh out loud moments but underneath the giggles is the sad reality that Don Jon is a man trying to break away from the craziness of modern life.
It’s also the directorial debut for Gordon-Levitt too and we can’t imagine how he managed the workload of lead star and visionary (although we’re pretty sure he didn’t mind Johansson for company.) If you are looking for a flick that deserves to be talked about but won’t leave you quite as traumatized as Gravity, we’d bet our last box of popcorn this could be a winner.
