Ever wondered what the wonderful world of styling is like? Celebrity stylist Louby McLoughlin let’s us in on it…

How did you get your break?

Assisting the editor of Arena HOMME+ who is also the Fashion Director at POP. I’ve spent the past three years working at POP as Junior Fashion Editor.

Tell us about working with shoes designer Sophia Webster came about?

We have very similar aesthetics, we both love all things girly so we decided to collaborate on the show and it worked really well. This was my first season I’d love to do more together in future.

What was the show like?

The theme was an insect sleepover so there were bits of the Grease pink ladies slumber party, Japanese teen girls, Clueless and some young Gwen Stefani thrown in.

What is your average day like?

The best part about working at a magazine or as a stylist is that each day varies from the next, I could be shooting one day and in meetings and researching the next.

Did you always want to work in the fashion industry?

I realised when was around 18. I was always creative but wasn’t sure where to channel it. Working at a magazine is a great place to start, it allows you to move into other areas or do your own thing if you wish.

How would you encourage any burgeoning stylists?

Forget what everyone else is up to, just do your own thing and be yourself.

How would you describe your own personal style?

Somewhere between Brit pop princess and Beverly Hills brat.

In the future who would you like to work with?

More pop stars to create images, collaborations with artists and continue in magazines.

What have you got coming up?

Some exciting collaborations over the next few months, more magazine editorials and some fun girl bands i’m styling.
