It’s official: one of the most exciting events on the London schedule is Fashion East, where a cool trio of emerging talents are selected to show at the Topshop showspace. This season, we welcomed Ashley Williams, Helen Lawrence and Louise Alsop to the stage. Of course, it’s not just the clothes that we’re obsessing over – get the inside track on the hair and beauty looks from their innovative AW14 shows below.

’90s grunge and tomboy cool were the buzzwords at Louise Alsop’s AW14 attitude-laden show today. Just like the amped-up clothes, the beauty look spoke volumes. Cue: wet-look hair secured into mussed-up plaits by hair stylist Mark Hampton. “It’s fresh and edgy,” he said backstage. Make-up artist Lucy Bridge riffed on the theme too, pressing three shades of teal eyeshadow onto the eyelids, before adding lashings of black mascara to the upper and lower lashes. Rock on.

Ashley Williams has a knack of creating instant fashion hits (think fuzzy shark bags and dreamboat-motif sweaters) and this season is no different. We especially loved the floppy, ’70s-inspired Prairie bonnets, which worked in harmony with the dreamy hair and make-up. Lucia Pica of M.A.C Pro dusted iridescent silver glitter pigment over the eyelids and honed a dewy complexion; while hair maestro, Mark Hampton blow-dried locks straight before spritzing with a high-shine spray to finish.

MAC make-up artist Thomas de Kluyver described the make-up look for Helen Lawrence as “Alice in Wonderland  goes to Glastonbury,” a concept that seemed perfect for the designer’s childhood-inspired collection.  Skin was fresh and flawless, with lashes and lips kept bare, while the eye make-up was anything but natural with layers and layers of colourful glitter added to selected models for maximum impact. The Toni & Guy team were also on hand with their straightening irons, giving us more of that oh-so-smooth and straight hair that’s been so popular so far for AW14.
