It’s the final day of London Fashion Week and it’s kicking off this morning with Marques’Almeida – the NEWGEN designer duo (and real life couple in love) whose denim creations have won them some serious kudos with the style set.

Backstage before the show we managed to grab Vidal Sassoon stylist Duffy (hands down one of the nicest guys in the hair biz), for a quick chat in between the madness of getting all the models ready for a 9am start! “I’ve called the look for today ‘night bus hair,'” he grinned, “greasy roots and loads of texture – like you’ve just got in after a big night out.” The inspiration was even more specific with Duffy drawing from an image of Janis Jolpin backstage, “It’s all about her raw, effortless cool but modernised for AW14.”

And to recreate the look? Duffy recommends overloading your hair with tonnes of product (a thick mousse is best), then drying it roughly with a diffusor. To really make like the models, finish by tucking your hair into your collar – then tease out a few strands for instant catwalk impact.

Terry Barber was on make-up, who came armed with a palette of primary colours from MAC, to match the make-up to the collection’s core colours. Models were given electric, ’80s-inspired eyes in vivid reds, blues and yellows and those without a strong eye rocked a bright red pout instead. But Terry was conscious not to stick too close to the ’80s reference. “We didn’t want the make-up to be too graphic,” he explained, “it’s more gritty and grainy, with smudged edges, just like the designers’ frayed denim.”
