Ok so we’re guessing you’ve probably heard about Ashish’s light-up trainers by now. Not to mention everyone who’s anyone buzzing about them on the Twittersphere, the London designer’s LED creations have graced the feet of celeb super fans like Lily Allen, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. So it’s no surprise they’re going like hot cakes from our just-dropped Ashish x Topshop collaboration.
But switching off the LEDs just for a second, have you had a chance to check out the rest of the line? True to his infectious sense of fun, Ashish’s collection is inspired by the dreamed-up ‘Paradise Hotel’, offering LOL-worthy slogan tees, Grecian towelling dresses, cheeky eye masks and brighter than bright bikinis. We caught up with the man himself to hear more…
Hi Ashish! What inspired the Paradise Hotel?
I love staying in a nice hotel when I am on holiday. So I thought of a dream resort with the biggest most amazing suites and this girl on holiday ordering room service and raiding the mini bar whilst running a bubble bath and lounging in a bath robe or towel worn as a dress while watching trashy pay-per-view. What could be more fun than that?!
Who would you invite there?
What makes the Topshop girl a perfect Ashish customer?
She’s not shy about sequins and she knows how to have a good time.
How has the collection moved on from your previous Topshop lines?
It’s a lot bigger than past collections and more diverse. I’ve done sunglasses, bags, shoes, t-shirts, swimwear, clothes and even an eye-mask.
Any favourite pieces?
All the light up stuff! I love the LED backpack – I’ve never seen anything like it.
What’s your design philosophy?
Fashion can be quite serious sometimes, so I think it’s important to have some fun with it… I always do when designing.
None of your signature sequins in the line?
The LED lights are the sequins this season!
What was the inspiration behind the light-up platforms?
I wanted it to be like a portable disco. Like ‘hello the party has arrived!’
How would you fill in the gaps for your slogan tee (above)?
I want to… CHANNING your… TATUM
