Festival season is officially here! But with so many music extravaganzas on offer, it can be tricky to decide which ones are worth your hard-earned cash. Not a fan of schlepping it through the mud and pitching a tent? Then a city-based one might be just the ticket. We’ve rounded up six of the very best in the UK.

7th-8th June, Victoria Park, London

What’s the vibe? The ultimate hipster playground, Field Day draws in the hottest bands and an achingly cool crowd to London’s Viccy park.

Who’s playing? Pixies, Metronomy, Jamie XX, Future Islands.

What to wear? No festival cliches at Field Day please! We say ditch the band tees for some tailored tropical co-ords.

23rd-25th May, Manchester, Bristol and Nottingham

What’s the vibe? One ticket, 14 hours and three cities, Dot to Dot couldn’t be a better road trip. It may be a tight squeeze for the line-up but if you’ve time to kill and the petrol money to spare it’s definitely worth throwing yourself into.

Who’s playing? Peace, Drenge, The Pizza Underground.

What to wear? We’re thinking road trip themed with a headscarf and your biggest film star sunnies.

15th-16th August, ExCeL Centre, London

What’s the vibe? The venue may seem a tad random (it’s usually home to trade shows and conferences), but new festival Jabberwocky is a great chance to check out alternative indie acts that rarely make it onto other UK line-ups.

Who’s playing? Neutral Milk Hotel, James Blake, Caribou.

What to wear? A lived-in leather jacket and flats made for dancing.

2nd August, Oval Space, London

What the vibe? At just £25 a ticket, you can catch the latest and greatest music on the London scene at Visions, as well as art installations, tattoo exhibitions and a market offering up London’s best food, fashion designers and vintage clothing.

Who’s playing? Andrew WK, Poliça, Still Corners.

What to wear? Keep it laid-back and cool in jersey separates and ripped denim.

18th-19th July, Victoria Park, London

What’s the vibe? With genre-spanning music from some seriously impressive international names, Lovebox is a one big party for all music tastes.

Who’s playing? MIA, Nas, Chase & Status, Katy B, A$AP Rocky.

What to wear? A floral garland is pretty much mandatory at Lovebox.

15th-22nd August, Custom House Square, Belfast

What’s the vibe? No city festival could top Belsonic’s stunning setting of Belfast’s Custom House Square. Enjoy open-air concerts while soaking up the historic scene, or hit nearby bar McHugh’s to enjoy a free live soundtrack to your drinks.

Who’s playing? Tom O’Dell, Example, Biffy Clyro.

What to wear? Boyfriend jeans and a graphic slogan tee.
