Summer’s officially here people! As well as the BBQs, bare legs and beach trips, this also means it’s time for the Royal Academy of Arts‘ annual Summer Exhibition. So if you fancy filling a free weekend with something a little more cultured than lazing around in the park, pop along for a serious art fix.

Running from 9th June-17th August, the exhibition is the world’s largest open submission – creating a great platform for up-and-coming artists to showcase their work. This year the Royal Academy received a staggering 12,000 entries, which they managed to whittle down to the final 1,200 works on display. Ranging from painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, architecture and film, the exhibition is a mixed media feast for your senses. And if it’s good enough for the likes of David Gandy and Alexa Chung (who we spied drooling over the art at the launch party), then it’s definitely good enough for us!

Watch the video below to get a sneak peek of the exhibition and hear the artists chat about the inspiration behind their work.
