If there’s one London fashion guru who not only knows new talent when she sees it but helps make it flourish, it’s Lulu Kennedy. You may know her from her SICK street style or more importantly, as the founder of the fabulous Fashion East but you may not know she designs her very own collection, Lulu & Co. On schedule for the first time at London Fashion Week and taking over a slick space at London’s ICA we got five minutes with the women herself rocking pink jersey dress smattered with circles of sequins and too cool for school stilettos.

“Last year we did rainbows, brights and it was all seventies. This season we remixed it to add a little ’90s which it my background. I used to work in clubs and raves in the ’90s so it feels quite clubby and young.”

“We collaborated with Louise Gray on some of colours, prints and embellishment. I love working with her! She’s got a great eye for colour and the way she clashes things. She uses all these different pieces in one look – layering and overlapping – but it all comes together and is very unified.”

Lulu’s group of close knit pals fit in with her reputation as fashion fairy godmother. Mover, shaker and stylist with serious edge, Madeleine Ostile cast the show, Richard Sloan styled it (you may know him for perfecting Lily Allen’s look) and Sharmadean Reid founder of Wah! Nails (and general #girlboss) created the fierce talons toting planets and prints. Other than those cool kids taking part, the rest of her inner circle made it down to soon over it with Princess Julia from iD Magazine, PR whizz Mandie Lennard and the LOVE Magazine team to whom Lulu is Editor at Large, checking out the looks.

“Topshop Unique and Ashley Williams tomorrow. Fashion East on Monday and then the rest of the ex-Fashion East guys.” And by that she means little old Richard Nicoll, Jonathan Saunders, Henry Holland, and Roksanda Ilincic! Lulu, we’re loving your work.
