MODEL OF THE MOMENT
With the US fash media on 24-hour Kendall watch, the Kardashian little sis’ has excelled expectations and elegantly debuted SS15 walking behind Naomi Campbell in the DVF show in super pretty gingham. Snapping selfies backstage with make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury at Donna Karan, channeling rock ‘n roll on the Tommy Hilfilger catwalk alongside her sister Kylie and down a pink catwalk at Marc Jacobs, this girl’s been hob-knobbing with everyone who matters at the after parties. Go gurl!
BEAUTY IS DECONSTRUCTED
With slicked down ‘runway gym hair’ and eyebrows dyed to match skin colour at Alexander Wang plus glistening faces at Prabal Gurung and DKNY – where models’ faces were spritzed with hair oil to re-create them arriving at castings all hot and sweaty – NYFW beauty has gone decidedly lo-fi this season. At Jason Wu, make-up was applied and then partially wiped away; Kendall actually did this on herself at the Wang show! But just in case that’s all feeling a bit too minimal, check out the multiple eyebrow rings at Rodarte…
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE SHOES
As we already mentioned, Alexander Wang paid homage to the sneaker with a strong, sporty collection of mesh-netted dresses; not a huge surprise from the downtown-king-of-cool admittedly. What did shake things up were the cool pastel cowgirl-esque flats from Victoria Beckham and gladiator-sandals-on-steroids (we mean right up to the knee!) from Jason Wu for Hugo Boss.
CATWALKS DON’T CUT IT
Models in clothes on catwalks just don’t cut it anymore. To make the fashion crowd take notice you need Spike Jonze to write and direct you a one-night-only 45-minute satire starring Elle Fanning, Dree Hemingway and Karlie Kloss as seen at Opening Ceremony. Went down a storm, natch.
VAPING IS A NO-NO!
Leave your e-ciggies at home! Blogger Bryan Boy was so offended by attendees vaping at the shows he took to Twitter in a tirade of expletives. So rude!
VINE IS BACK
Re-activate your account, Vine videos are back with a bang, thanks to the Olsen twins who hilariously appear posing for a photo unwittingly realizing they are being filmed (worth watching if only to improve your selfie skills!) and Nicki Minaj teaching models her Anaconda dance…
RAVE CULTURE IS BACK
With Skrillex scoring VIP seats at Alexander Wang and Versus Versace, Marc by Marc Jacobs’ drum ‘n bass soundtrack and Luella Bartley and Kate Hillier taking inspo for the MBMJ collection from 80s rave culture… deep breath, it’s probably safe to say rave is back. We’re just not sure we can handle Miley Cyrus in her new incarnation as an artist – she debuted her Dirty Hippie art installation, featuring sunglasses made of pills, at the Jeremy Scott show… But we’d sure like to join the after parties at Space Ibiza’s New York outpost!
WORK THE BIRKS
The two-strapped ugly shoe phenomenon continues with Grace Coddington spotted sporting a pair of black Arizonas front row, sitting next to Brooklyn at the Victoria Beckham show. The woman can do no wrong!
