Got Serious FOMO from SXSW’s music festival? Fear not. We asked three of the industry’s coolest new talent – Jackie Yaeger (Editorial Director of BandsinTown), Emily Quirk (our favourite new music photographer) and Lallie Jones (manager at label 300) – to pick their festival highlights!
Chosen by Emily Quirk, music photographer and serial Instagrammer
“After a couple years of trying, I finally had the chance to see this group during the She Shreds showcase at Hotel Vegas. They’re easily the most colorful group to take the stage, with rainbows of lime green, pink and yellow hair, paired with Furby-printed crop tops. Tacocat sings about the female life and the emotions we all feel throughout daily life. Their set instantly made me want to be their best friends and I physically haven’t been able to stop listening to them since.”
THE SPOTIFY HOUSE
Chosen by Lallie Jones, manager at 300 label.
“Hanging out at Spotify house was one the highlights of my SXSW experience. Some of my favorite performers were Miguel, Tate Kobang, and Vince Staples pre his extra aggressive rant! The set up was comfortable and the sight lines on the both stages were perfect. Of course the free drinks made it the perfect spot to stop by when I had an hour to spare.”
Chosen by Jackie Yaeger Editorial Director of BandsinTown who’s obsessed with magazines and lipstick.
“Not only does this LA-based musician have incredibly fierce style, but I’m pretty sure her insanely powerful vocals could be heard all the way to the Convention Center; when she belts, you listen. Her live set is definitely a bit harder than on record as if she is channeling a Los Angeles punk Barbie doll–Folick is a badass. It’s hard to pinpoint a specific genre for the frontwoman and backing three-piece band (her Facebook bio sites “psycho grunge” and that’s truly not far off) but it’s safe to say she is edgy, cool, fresh, and about to be everywhere.”
