7 Iconic Front Row Moments

Can’t wait for fashion month? To celebrate New York Fashion Week kicking off tomorrow we’re taking a look back at our favourite front row moments from a time when sunglasses worn inside was a must and smartphones not even a thing(not to mention Snapchat or Instagram). From Mary-Kate and Ashley to Paris and Nicky, these are seven front rows that stole the show back in the day…

1. Anna Wintour and Suzy Menkes
Anna

Two undisputed queens of the front row in matching Versace shirts, signature bobs and shades? This shot of Anna Wintour and Suzy Menkes by Niall McInerney has “iconic” written all over it.

2. Patricia Field, Kristin Davis and Sarah Jessica Parker
Carrie

Carrie Bradshaw famously fell during her very own runway moment, but Sarah Jessica Parker played it safe by sitting front row, accompanied by co-star Kristin Davis and Sex and The City stylist Patricia Field – who was probably planning one of Carrie’s epic looks.

3. Paris and Nicky Hilton
Paris

No noughties front row was complete without the Hilton sisters. Here they are wearing two of 2016’s biggest jean trends – embroidery and undone hems – back in 2004. That’s hot.

4. Bianca Jagger
Biance

Today, trends set in the front rows are implemented almost immediately. But when Bianca Jagger attended a fashion show wearing a perfectly tailored suit with shoulder pads in 1978 and it wasn’t until a few years later that big shoulders became one of the biggest trends of the ’80s.

5. Beyoncé and Jay-Z

Even though their front row outfit choices are questionable, it probably doesn’t get more iconic than Beyoncé and Jay-Z admiring Naomi Campbell on the runway…

6. Victoria Beckham
Victoria

Before starting her own label and spending more time backstage than front row, Victoria Beckham was a regular guest at all of the hottest shows. Of course every opportunity was used to show off her impressive collection of bodycon dresses and Birkin bags…

7. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
MKA

The Olsen twins front row appearances wearing their trademark grunge-looks manifested their style icon status. Now designers themselves they’ve shied away from the paparazzi, so we’ll take any chance to feature fashion’s favourite twins in a throwback…
