Everyone’s talking about the colour red – and it’s not just because of those hello-look-at-me Fendi boots. The red dress is red hot this season, on the runway and off, from Bella Hadid’s barely-there slip at Cannes 2016 and Best Supporting Actress winner Viola Davis at this year’s Oscars to the latest collections at Prada, Jil Sander and Chloé. All prove how red can be ladylike and daring at the same time. So, to help you make a scarlet statement, here are the new rules of red…
Cut It Out
Yesterday, Chloé sent a red-velvet dress down the runway with a heart-shaped cutout (left). At the Tophsop Unique show, we featured our own cool twist on cutout details (right).
Fit and flare at Prada (left) vs figure skimming at Oscar de la Renta (right); both updated traditionally feminine shapes.
Reveal A Little
Proenza Schouler showed some skin (left), while Fendi flirted with sheer panels in a floaty fabric (right).
Roksanda (left) and Prabal Gurung (right) played with sleeve and hem lines in fiery red and deep burgundy respectively.
Keep It Simple
Jil Sander (left) and Victoria Beckham (right) made red more of a subtle statement with these simple, high-neck styles.
