London Fashion Week: The Insider Edit

London Fashion Week is fast approaching, which means fashion editors, models and industry influencers will be spending their days dashing between shows. Ever wondered how they survive it all in style? We asked some of our favourite fashion insiders for their expert advice…

Naomi Shimada – Model and Activist

What’s your go-to piece this season?
I’ll be running around in my trainers because I like to keep it real (and comfy!) during LFW and in life!

What’s your favourite place in London?
Being too hungry to even focus on the clothes coming down the catwalk is not the one! I’m so happy that the main show space is in Soho as that means I can sneak away to slurp Udon noodles in between shows at my fave restaurant, Koya. They know me too well in there! It’s the most authentic Japanese Udon I’ve been able to find in Europe, so it makes me so nostalgic for my childhood in Japan.

Do you have any fashion faux pas you’re brave enough to admit to?
There are no faux pas! Only moments! Sometimes you have to try something to look back and just know it’s not for you! Wouldn’t life be boring if we didn’t have any classic fashion horrors to look back at?!

What’s your life mantra?
Not that I always follow it myself, but trying to remind myself all the time when I’m having a meltdown: “JUST STOP. CLOSE YOUR EYES AND BREATHE – FEEL YOUR BODY AND REMEMBER IT’S NOT THAT BAD!!!”

Laura Weir – Editor, ES Magazine

What’s your go-to piece this season?
In ES Magazine‘s September fashion edition, we’re featuring a pair of exquisite Topshop mules in blue velvet, decorated with sparkles. I’m going to buy those straight after the LFW show!

What’s your favourite place in London?
I recently visited the Savoy hotel with a friend for cocktails. The drinks hit the spot and there was a piano player to add to the cruise ship vibe. Claridge’s has my heart for breakfast and work lunches, and for family days out I love the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill. I’ve been going since I was a child.

Do you have any fashion faux pas you’re brave enough to admit to?
Endless amounts! There was the moussed hair, giant scrunchies, cycling shorts, buffalo boots… To be fair it sounds pretty on-trend millennial doesn’t it?!

What’s your life mantra?
I’ve got a few. ‘A life without risk is no life at all’ is a classic. My all-time favourite is ‘stay close to anything that makes you glad you’re alive.’

Veronika Heilbrunner – Industry Insider

What’s your go-to piece this season?
A faux-fur coat – you can wear it with everything, from tracksuit bottoms to a cool dress and jeans.

What’s your favourite place in London?
I have so many places I love in London, but I prefer old-school places like The Wellesley or eating macaroni and cheese with lobster and truffles at 34 restaurant. And I love pubs – my favourite is The Royal Oak on Columbia Road, where I go after visiting the flower market.

Do you have any fashion faux pas you’re brave enough to admit to?
Wearing skirts that are too short! Being very tall, I’ve often had difficulties finding the right length in the past. When I was younger I once bleached my eyebrows white, which just looked horrendous! But never say never – whenever I think I will never wear something again, the next season I’m wearing it! Like cropped tops. I remember saying I would never wear them again, and this summer I wore nothing else. So I don’t think there a fashion faux pas per se – it’s all about the time and the place!

What’s your life mantra?
Spend time with the things you love most and that make you happy. I am so blessed and happy to have a job that actually is my hobby. I also totally believe in karma, so I believe that everything you do comes back to you.
