Our Favourite Stylist On How To Nail Party Dressing

Have you seen our party campaign? Shot by Self Service’s Ezra Petronia and featuring model of the moment Romee Strijd, it dazzles with iridescent velvet blazers, sequin flares and chainmail bags for a disco-inspired vibe that wouldn’t feel out of place at Studio 54. But how to wear it in 2017? We spoke to the stylist behind the shoot, Beth Fenton, about her inspiration and the key tips on how to out-sparkle the crowd this festive season.

“There is definitely a strong 70s element to the shoot – the jumpsuits and flared trousers, velvet tuxedos, as well as all the sequins, diamanté, lurex, satin, feathers and chainmail. They have a disco feel to them that’s straight from Studio 54 or a Ron Galella photograph…

The pieces that stand out the most ware the sequinned dress and all the diamanté-embellished pieces. There’s a very strong overall message for texture and embellishment, especially all that shimmers and shines, which is perfect for the party season and something that is very on-trend in occasionwear right now…

The way to keep it fresh for 2017 is to maximize, elevate and amplify the look. Don’t hold back – be confident with it and add bold earrings, diamanté tights, an embellished bag, a sequinned boot and faux-fur stoles. Add a pop of color and some fun with pink pom-pom pumps…

Invest in a velvet jacket. You can wear it year-round with a T-shirt and jeans, but, for the Christmas party season, you can style it closed with the matching trousers or even sequin flares and diamanté jeans. It formalizes the look, adding more richness and texture.”
