As a model she’s landed
34 Vogue covers, major
campaigns for Dior,
Marc Jacobs and Topshop,
three years of Victoria’s Secret
shows and a top 10 spot
on Forbes’ Highest Paid
Models list. And that’s
just the day job.

Karlie’s Kookies launched
in 2012 – her own brand
of gluten-free cookies
with chef Christina Tosi.
Proceeds have helped feed
underprivileged children
around the world, as well as
providing support to young
American fashion designers.

Karlie’s YouTube channel
Klossy has clocked up
347,943 subscribers, taking
fans behind the scenes
on shoots, answering
their questions via Twitter
and providing cooking
tutorials from her
Manhattan apartment.

After learning coding
and computer programming
at the Flatiron School, she
set up the Kode With Karlie
scholarship – funding 21
other girls from 11 states
to take full-time courses
in software engineering
across America.

Be Smart

“I’m curious about how things work. That’s why I’ve been
learning how to code. I started thinking, how does my phone
work? Coding is the language of the future.”

Be Empowered

“I’m so inspired by the powerful women that I get to interact
with. So many of the great people in the fashion industry
are women, and I grew up in a house of women who are
so unique and independent thinking.”

Be Entrepeneurial

“I think it's incredibly important for girls to learn how
to code. I started Kode With Karlie to empower other young
women like myself, to encourage them to recognise that
it can be something they can find interesting and that
it can get them ahead in their career.”

“If you want to be successful,
just dive in...”

Ten ways to Be More Karlie? We chatted with her on set – eight years since her very first Topshop campaign – for some words of inspiration…

Be Active

“I need the release of exercise because I spend so much
time in a studio or on an aeroplane. I used to hate running.
To get over that I started training for a half marathon!
I'm a bit extreme like that.”

Be Motivated

“I have to motivate myself to train, especially when it's
miserable in January. But you’ve got to put your gym clothes
on and do enough to break a sweat. It'll change your energy
for the entire day.”

Be Ambitious

“If you want to be successful, just dive in. Find something
you really enjoy and if you're truly passionate about
something and put the hard work in, then success is

Be Healthy

“I grew up in Mid West America with not always
the healthiest food, but in the past few years I've got into
cooking with cleaner, fresher ingredients. If you use
ingredients that are in season, you don't even
have to do much cooking.”

Be Grounded

“I'm so close to my three sisters. When we’re all back
home in St Louis it's just loud - lots of food, lots of laughing,
lots of cooking”.

Be Topshop

“One of my first modelling jobs was my Topshop campaign
eight years ago. My grandmother brought me over from St
Louis. I was young and shy and super nervous to be on set
of Topshop. Luckily I was shooting with Jourdan Dunn and we
became overnight best friends. I think she had me in stitches
the whole time we were shooting.”

Be Stylish

Want to channel Karlie’s style this 2016? We’ve made an edit
of new season pieces inspired by her, from the pink ladies
bomber in our SS16 campaign shoot to the latest bretons,
boyfriends jeans and khaki jackets you need.
