YOURGAFF

It’s official – flowers are totally on-trend. Nik Southern is the woman behind Grace & Thorn, an East London florist that’s quirky bouquets and so-now plants are loved by fashion stars from J W Anderson to Henry Holland. Throw in a slick, concrete designed shop on Hackney Rd and you can see why she’s putting the cool into floristry. We popped by to catch Nik and assistant Carla’s green fingers at work.

What makes Grace & Thorn different?

It’s wild and offbeat - country meets city. For us no two bouquets are ever the same - it’s not just about putting pretty flowers together but creating beautiful, unexpected designs. Everything we do should be a work of art.

Why is it so important to #greenupyourgaff?

Without greenery, the world would be a very ugly place! For me, plants bring a sense of calm and it’s been proven that being around them can relieve stress and illness – you can’t argue with that!

What’s your style?

I’m a bit of a tomboy. My style’s quite laid-back – sporty jackets and trainers, plus a few eclectic pieces and prints thrown into the mix.

Tell us about your outfits today

We both love a bomber jacket! The one I’m wearing is sheepskin, which is great for winter. We styled them with jeans and jersey crops – cool, comfy outfits perfect for running around between events.
Who would be your dream client?
The original flower seller in My Fair Lady – Eliza Doolittle.
CARNATIONS
“That’s right, carnations are making a comeback! They’re so underrated.”
STRING OF PEARLS
