Get ready to go back to the elegant era of 1930s America with Topshop Unique. For AW11, our amazing in-house design team journeyed back to the industrial age with sumptuous silks, refined silhouettes and dalmation spots that Cruella de Ville would have been proud of.
A voluminous faux fur black and white coat with its collar turned up, worn over hiked-up trousers and thick woollen socks opened the show. A cute square-bibbed sailor suit got a new season update in doggy-printed denim and sweetly feminine jumpers with a canine motif gave speakeasy-inspired oversized pinstripe suits a playful feel.
Faux-fur trimmed dresses and flowing, spotted silk that skimmed the knees and screamed elegance-with-a-twist bought a decadent image of Hollywood glamour to mind. There were trenches, tailored jackets and boxy rich-girl cover-ups with leather trims teamed with frothy-ruffle silk shirts and flapper-esque drop-waist skirts or pleated high-waist pants.
From the T-bar peep toes inspired by chorus-line girls to the black and white dog-spot furry boots, the ladylike boxy handbags, and the Art Deco jewels, the accessories at the Unique AW11 show were more desirable than ever.
