A Closer Look At Mary Katrantzou’s Mood Board

Greek designer Mary Katrantzou just showed her Spring/Summer 2018 collection in the Topshop show space. Titled “The ‘Youth’ of a Year”, it took its cues from an idealised childhood fantasy, imagination and hand-crafting. Backstage, we got the chance to take a peek at her mood board. Keep reading to see what inspired Mary and how it was reflected in the collection…

1. Inflatables

Inflatable toy-covered handbags were carried on candy-pink and blue plastic chains.

2. Bubble wrap

Material resembling heart-shaped bubble wrap was used on some of the stand-out dresses of the collection.

3. Paint by number colouring books

At first glance this may look like a simple floral print, but take a closer look to discover the paint-by-numbers design integrated into the fabric.

4. Lego

Pencil skirts were adorned with lego pieces as Mary Katrantzou’s signature trompe l’oeil effect of the season.

5. Friendship bracelets

A range of colourful dresses were woven together with the same technique used on classic friendship bracelets, and embellished with crystal flowers.
