Model Alyssa Cordes is one of half of the coolest girl crew in Berlin – part of the DJ duo ALYGANY with her best friend Gia Escobar. To celebrate her edit of her favourite pieces at Topshop right now, we discover how she styles out the festive season – from dressing up on Christmas Eve to skiing in the Austrian mountains…
What’s your favourite part of Christmas?
That I get to spend time with my whole family. We hang out together and have a great time!
How do you celebrate Christmas Eve?
Usually we meet up at my grandparents’ place to have a nice dinner that everyone helps to prepare. After the meal, we sit together at the Christmas tree, unwrap the presents and sing some Christmas songs – I’m not the biggest fan of this routine, but my family loves the traditional German carols. We also eat lots of Christmas sweets and catch up on what everyone has been doing.
What does Christmas day look like for you? Do you dress up or down?
On Christmas Day we go out for a walk and the feast continues at my grandparents’ place. The big celebration is on Christmas Eve, so I always dress up in something like a velvet suit and some black heels; Christmas day is far more dressed down.
What’s your Boxing Day routine?
Gia and I used to spend every Boxing Day evening together eating pizza at a place in our hometown. We mostly see our old friends and meet up for drinks, but this year the whole family is going to Kitzbühel so we’ll be skiing in the Austrian mountains.
What’s the biggest wish that ever came true for you on Christmas?
Last year it was simply coming home for Christmas – I was sick in hospital and wasn’t sure how long I had to stay there. It definitely made me realize that material gifts aren’t as important as spending time with the ones you love!
What’s the best gift you’ve ever given someone?
The best gifts are always the personal ones! My grandpa only wants dark chocolate at Christmas, strictly prohibiting us from giving him any other material gifts. So we write him letters to thank him for always being there for us.
What’s your wish for the future?
That everyone I love stays healthy and happy. And that I achieve my own personal goals, like studying for my masters in London.
What do you love about the Topshop pieces you’ve picked?
As Christmas in Germany can get dark and cold, I picked some pieces in baby-blue and soft pink to fight the winter depression. The fluffy pink coat will keep me warm and happy. I’m going to wear the leather trousers for a boxing day night out.
