Always wanted to host a wine tasting evening? Make the most of the last weeks of summer and gather your friends for a fun alfresco event. To help you plan, we teamed up with Wanderlust Wines to make it easy for you…
1. Become an expert (without being one)
Don’t know a lot about wines? If you join the Wanderlust Wine Club it will pretty much take care of itself. The quarterly subscription box features 6-12 wines with each shipment, and offers a good variety of wines to try before you show them off to your friends. Discover new grapes, regions and winemakers and try the best seasonal whites, reds, prosecco and more to get some experience. The tasting notes, recommendations and food pairings for the wines included in the box will give you enough knowledge to impress your guests at your event.
2. Think twice about your guestlist
Don’t go overboard with the guest list and invite no more than ten people to really be able to enjoy the experience to the fullest. It might also be a good idea to invite people who are similarly experienced with wine tasting so no one feels left out. You can all learn new things together and make it a memorable and carefree night.
3. Pick a clever dress code
Even though we hope there won’t be any spillages, think ahead and stay away from wearing anything white. Instead, make vivid prints the dress code for the evening so you don’t have to be worried about your friends’ clothes either. We recommend splashy floral maxis, animal print midis or boldly patterned blouses.
4. Create your ideal wine list
Once you’ve tried some wines, decide which ones to offer at the event. Make sure you have a good variety of types, countries and winemakers, plus the matching snacks recommended in the tasting notes. If you’re inviting any Vegans, Wanderlust even has a selection of 32 Vegan-friendly wines to pick from.
5. Re-order the wines you liked
Found your favourite wine? You can re-order it with next day delivery if you’re based in London. But that’s not all – seven of Wanderlust’s wines are available on demand, so you can order it on the night and get it within the hour. How about placing an order at the end of the night with everyone’s favourites, so each guest has a bottle to take home after the evening…
