If your bucket list is filled we places you want to travel to, we have one more for you: Vancouver. Canada’s third biggest city has a lot more to offer than you might expect, from bears in the wild to neon-lit cityscapes and Instagram-worthy nature spectacles. Here’s what makes it so special…
1. Downtown is reason enough
Think Downtown L.A. or San Francisco, but a lot more relaxed: Downtown Vancouver can easily compete with your favourite cities. Head to Fairview and Granville Street to check out the rows of Retro neon signs, go shopping in the coolest stores and have some food at one of the many harbour restaurants or grab some Bibimbap in Koreatown.
2. The most incredible nature is just a ferry ride away
You can get to Vancouver island in just about an hour by ferry – and what you’ll find will blow your mind. Expect picturesque lakes, imposing mountainscapes and the most beautiful sunsets you’ve ever seen. Plus, if you’re lucky you might be able to spot some grizzlies, flying salmon, Moose and deer along the way…
3. It’s a paradise for Instagram photos
Whether it’s the neon lights of the city, bright yellow leaves in fall, turquoise water or rainbow-coloured beach huts – Vancouver and Vancouver island are drenched in the most vivid of colours that will make your Instagram feed look better than ever.
4. You will see things you’ve never seen before
Ever been to a place where actual, real-life goats casually live on the roof? Vancouver island’s rather unusual attraction at Coombs Old County market is something you need to see at least once in your lifetime. But the goats aren’t the only reason the market is worth a visit: with a grocery shop offering local delicacies, plenty of eateries and restaurants on the premises, it’ll be the perfect way to spend your afternoon.
5. The Northern lights
Thought you can only witness the Northern Lights in Scandinavia? Well think again, because the ‘aurora borealis’ also draws travellers from around the world to Canada. If you’re planning to go to see them, make sure you do your research about when and where to go first to make sure you don’t miss them!
