9 Things On Our Summer Break Bucket List

You wait all year for summer break: those few sacred weeks when you can forget about any kind of stress, hang with friends and enjoy some well-deserved R&R. But, before you know it, September rolls back around so to help you make the most of your days off we’ve put together the ultimate summer break bucket list. See how many you can tick off…

1. Be a tourist in your own city…

Because they feel so familiar, we often tend to take the amazing attractions right on our doorstep for granted. But remember: tourists travel from far and wide to see your local museums, galleries, monuments or areas. So, whether you live in a countryside village or a big city, take time to explore your hometown with a fresh mindset. Think of it as a staycation…

2. Watch a film under the stars…

A good film, all the snacks and a rooftop of stars – an open-air cinema is the number one way to make the most of warm summer evenings. Plus, there are so many different options to pick from now too. At The Rooftop Filmclub you can watch blockbuster hits surrounded by the towering buildings of Stratford or you could catch a flick at The Luna Cinema, which pops up in parks and gardens all across the UK.

3. Dress for the weather you want…

This year’s weather has been temperamental to say the least. One minute it’s blue sky and blazing sunshine, the next it’s a torrential downpour. The trick to keeping those summer vibes alive is to dress the part – regardless of what mother nature has in store. For more uncertain forecasts, simply swap out your sandals for boots and a light jacket.

4. Get fit in fresh air…

There’s nothing worse than being stuck inside when the sun is shining, so why not switch up your fitness regime and swap out your gym session for a park run instead? The views are almost guaranteed to be more interesting than the blank wall in front of the treadmill and the daily dose of Vitamin D will do you some good too!

5. Get a summer glow…

In an ideal world, we would all be hopping on the next flight to a dreamy summertime destination and spending the next few weeks topping up our tan poolside. But, failing this, highlighters, bronzers and shimmering eyeshadows are the next best way to get a sun-kissed glow, ASAP.

6. Relax by a body of water…

Whether it’s a beach, a lake or an inner city lido, nothing beats a swim in a refreshing swimming pool on a hot summer’s day. A game of water volley ball is always a fun idea or, if you’re in need of some more chill time, get yourself an Instagram-worthy lilo and snap the perfect pool-time picture.

7. Rethink your modes of transport…

Hopefully, you won’t see much rain over the course of your break, so take the opportunity to walk or cycle places instead of driving or taking the tube (which is the worst in summer anyway). Healthier, enjoyable and more comfortable for you, and even better for the environment. It’s a win, win.

8. Host a summer sleepover…

Spending quality time with your best friends is an absolutely essential activity for the summer holidays, so invite the gang over for some food, good gossip and classic sleepover-style pampering (face masks and manicures, anyone?). Add a summer twist to your plans by hosting a BBQ or making S’mores by the fire-pit.

9. Get lost in a great book…

There are so many novels on our reading list, but life gets in the way and we don’t always get round to reading them. There is plenty of time in summer though! Plus, if you’ve already been abroad or you don’t have a trip away planned, losing yourself in a great book is a good way to escape the everyday.
