Topshop HQ’s Favourite Non Cliché Christmas Songs

With less than ten days to go until Christmas, it’s seriously time to get merry – and what better way to do so than by listening to some jolly Christmas tunes? And as much as we love the classics from All I Want for Christmas Is You to Driving Home For Christmas, we think it’s about time you updated your festive playlist. That’s why we asked around Topshop HQ to compile a list of the best non-cliché tunes that will get you in the mood in a brand new way…

FLOSS – Earth to Santa (I Am My Own Gift)

‘This song isn’t just a catchy, perfectly kitschy Christmas tune with a super fun music video to match – it also supports a good cause. German singer FLOSS has collaborated with Junge Helden e.V. on this song to spread awareness that in Germany statistically three people die each day because they are waiting for an organ donor. All proceeds the song made in the first two weeks of release were donated to the cause. What’s not to love!’ – Cailin Klohk, Digital Editor

The Kinks – Father Christmas

My favourite Christmas song of all time is definitely ‘I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus’ but if you’re after something a bit more rock ‘n’ roll and alternative then ‘Father Christmas’ by The Kinks is really fun. I like it because it has more of a going-out vibe than your traditional Christmas song making it perfect for pre-drinks!‘ – Ella Josey, Online Production Assistant

Pentatonix – Winter Wonderland/Don’t Worry Be Happy (ft Tori Kelly)

‘I’m a huge fan of all the classic jazzy Christmas songs, but I also really love this original medley of ‘Winter Wonderland’ and ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy’ by a-cappella band Pentatonix. It’s a great song if you want to start the day in a positive mood’ – Mihanta Ramamonjisoa, Digital Editorial Assistant

The Waitresses – Christmas Wrapping

‘It’s got to be ‘Christmas Wrapping’ by the Waitresses for me. It perfectly summarises the true love-hate relationship that I (and I think many others) have around the holidays.  I listen to it every year and still am not sick so that definitely counts for something. “Bah humbug, no that’s too strong because it is my favourite holiday…’ – Kathryn Hind, Online Trading Assistant

Destiny’s Child – 8 Days of Christmas

‘This the ultimate Christmas girl-power feel-good song for me. The music video is also a great 2000s throwback which I love! I feel like this is a song that gets really overlooked but it’s definitely one of the classics in my opinion!’ – Ella Josey, Online Production Assistant

Chris de Burgh – A Spaceman Came Travelling

‘My favourite Christmas song is ‘A Spaceman Came Travelling’ by Chris De Burgh because it would always come on when we were decorating the tree and my brother would sing it all at the top of his lungs. It reminds me of hanging out with the family at home which is what Christmas is all about.’ – Becca Wade, Junior Editor
