What To Wear If You Want To Look Cool And Stay Warm On A Night Out

It’s here: party season has well and truly arrived and we couldn’t be more excited. But there’s a catch: it’s absolutely freezing outside and the going-out pieces we want to wear are mostly short, sheer and quite the opposite of warm. This might be fine when you’re actually at the party but when you’re standing in the queue, waiting for a taxi or walking from bar to bar it’s not ideal. This year we’re finally listening to our mums and are set to wrap up in party-ready outfits that will equally keep us looking cool and staying warm. Here’s how…

1. In biker jackets we trust…

We’re never going to give up on mini dresses, so winter months call for the unsung hero of cold nights out: the trusty biker jacket. You won’t regret investing in your favourite one, as they go with absolutely anything, will shield you from the wind and still show off your outfit. We’ll be completing this look with a pair of trending chunky heels and sparkly gunmetal socks.

2. Suited for anything…

A black suit is the forever effortless go-to for party season and super warm at that! We love this one because its diamanté trim makes it very clear that it’s for the 5-9 and not the 9-5. Keep the sparkly-theme going with all of your accessories and, if you’re still chilly, you can always wear a plain black long-sleeve top underneath.

3. Too pretty for the cloakroom…

A knitted bodycon midi dress is guaranteed to keep you a lot warmer than all of its floaty alternatives, so we can’t recommend it enough. Add a cropped faux fur jacket to add a touch of glam, ideally one that’s so nice you won’t even want to leave it in the cloakroom. Finish the look with some snakeskin boots, grab party bag and you’re all set!

4. Turtlenecks can party too…

If you’re really struggling with what to wear, you can never wrong with a pair of black jeans. This year, try a coated pair: they will make you feel a more dressed up and, since we’re focusing on the warmth factor, are slightly thicker. Pair them with a party-ready sheer long sleeve top and of course lots of sparkling accessories.

5. Too many sequins? Never…

A sequin skirt just had to be on the list. Go for a midi length, so you’re not braving bare legs but still look ready to party. We’ve opted for all-black-everywhere with the rest of the look and picked a taffeta top, stiletto boots and a simple shoulder bag. And just in case that’s not enough sparkle for you: complete the look with an embellished headband.
