5 Ways Anyone Can Experience London Fashion Week Like A Fashion Editor

London Fashion Week starts today – and even if you’re not a top editor, blogger or model, your access to the event isn’t quite as limited as you may think. Instagram has created a demand for fashion weeks around the world to become less exclusive and, luckily for you, that means pretty much anyone can be a part of the fun today. Not sure where to start? We’ve created the ultimate insider guide to LFW, including where to hang out, who to follow and which public events to attend this season to get the best experience out of it…

1. Go street-style spotting

Most of fashion week this season is centred around 180 The Strand, so if you hang out there long enough you’re bound to spot some street-style stars and maybe even some celebrities – we’re talking the likes of Posh and Becks here. Some other popular hang-out spots during fashion week will be Somerset House and The Mayfair Hotel where you can expect to see other stylish attendees in action. But really, you can expect the whole city to feel that extra bit fashion at this time, so don’t be surprised if you see couture outfits in your local Pret too.

2. Attend the citywide celebrations

Each season, the British Fashion Council puts together a curated festival of activities that takeover London during fashion week. You can find the full list of events here – ranging from fashion-themed cocktails at Sticks ‘n’ Sushi to the pre-launch of the Karl Lagerfeld ‘The White Shirt Edit’ at the Regent St. store. The schedule changes every day, so we’re sure there will be plenty of things that take your fancy.

3. Buy tickets to the public shows

Did you know that not all the shows at fashion week are invite only? Some are actually open to the public if you buy a ticket and this season the list includes top designers like Temperley London and De La Valli. If it’s been a lifelong dream of yours to attend a real runway show, then this is a good way to experience it and feel like a front row star.

4. Get your outfit fashion-week ready

If all else fails, getting your outfit right during fashion week will at least make people think you’ll be spending your afternoon on the front row – even if you’re just heading to your 9-5. The trends change from season to season, but this time around we’re predicting a lot of neutrals, tailoring and some practical elements, due to the less-than-fortunate weather. Try incorporating statement-making PU trousers, boots and a hat to your look to increase your chances of being snapped by a street-style photographer.

5. Follow the right people

Not even the top editors manage to make it to all of the shows, as there’s so much going on nowadays. So, if there’s a show you’re dying to see, just follow the brand on Instagram or tune into their livestream when showtime comes. That way you won’t miss any of the action and will even have a better view than some of the people actually in the room. Don’t stop there when it comes to Instagram though – you can also follow some of your favourite street style stars, journalists and make-up artists to be in on all the backstage action.
