7 Activities To Do At Home Inspired By Your Favourite TV Shows

If there’s ever been a good time to rewatch all your favourite TV shows, it’s right now. Plus, aside from keeping you entertained, we’ve discovered that a lot of the best binge-worthy series also offer up some pretty great ideas of things to get up to in your spare time. From Friends to The Big Bang Theory and Gossip Girl, we looked back at our all-time favourite TV shows and discovered seven fun activities you should try at home now…

1. Game night – The Big Bang Theory

In times like these, rituals can be a great way to structure your weeks and ensure you have something to look forward to. So, take cues from The Big Bang Theory and make every upcoming Friday night game night – whether it’s with the people you live with or your friends via video chat. If you want to go all the way, opt for a different vintage game you haven’t played in a while each week and order some Chinese food Sheldon-style.

2. Assigning household tasks – The O.C.

Arguing over who is responsible for which household task right now? Seth Cohen is here to help with his idea of the ‘work wheel’ of fortune. Although luck didn’t exactly determine the duties in the Cohen house, you could make your own wheel and spin to decide who is cooking, cleaning or taking the bins out each day. Or, you could let luck decide what to do with your day ahead: make a list of things on your to-do list, spin and find out what to tick off first…

3. Movie night – Gilmore Girls

Movie nights are probably already on your agenda but we think you should be making them extra special right now. Inspired by Lorelai and Rory’s weekly ritual on Gilmore Girls, plan a movie marathon and match your snacks to the movie you’ll be watching. Remember that episode when they rented Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and ate pretty much all the candy they could find at Doose’s Market? That’s the vibe we’re going for.

4. Baking – Desperate Housewives

Thinking of baking something? Inspired by this hilarious scene from Desperate Housewives, we think it would be even more fun to share the experience with a friend -even if it’s just on the phone or on FaceTime. Or, call your mum and let her run you through your favourite cake recipe step by step so you can spend some quality time with her and learn something new along the way. Bree Van de Kamp would be so proud.

5. Quiz night – Friends

How well do you really know the people you live with? If you’re a fan of Friends, you probably know what we’re suggesting here: ‘the test’ in which Chandler and Joey went head to head against Rachel and Monica to determine who knew more about the other duo. Create your own version inspired by the rules Ross explains here, but – please – do not use your apartment as the prize…

6. Date night – Gossip Girl

In this scene from Gossip Girl, Blair Waldorf and Dan Humphrey teach us that you actually don’t even have to be in the same room to do movie night: just call your friend, start a same movie at the same time and you’ll get to experience something together even if you’re both on your own. Or download Netflix Party, a plug-in that synchronises video playback and adds a group chat to whatever you’re streaming so you can instantly talk about it with your friends…

7. Daydreaming – How I Met Your Mother

What is something you’d do if money or time weren’t an issue? Now is the time to daydream, get creative with your plans for the future and maybe even make them happen. Do it like Ted and Barney: call or sit down with your best friend, come up with the ultimate dream scenario of something you could do together and plan every detail of it. It may never happen in reality but who knows what you could come up with…
